In Which Side Are You?

Sun never sets.
What did we think?
It was all wrong.
Earth just rotates;
and everything depends on the side of world we are!
That's nature;
and the nature of life too!

Worry Not!

Don't worry that you couldn't do something today.
Remember that you have done that yesterday.
And, you can certainly do it tomorrow.
After all, past and future is always a lot; present is much lesser!

Books & People

Do you know the similarity between good books and people?

Both come into our lives…
Hold our hands…
Walk us through their lives…
Add new perspectives…
Give fond memories…
Make us laugh and cry…
And then peacefully rest within the constraints of our minds!

Of course, they’ll be available if we need them and they know that we’ll be there for them too – Always!

Tell yourself that this is not the end;
But a new beginning.
Embrace yourself tight;
Don’t blame yourself.
Look forward to conquer your dreams;
Stay positive.
Believe that everything’ll be alright;
Keep that smile intact!

Messed up Life?

"Why is my life so messed up?"
A question that often comes in our mind.
The answer is same as the answer to the question - why is my house so messy.
Because you either messed it yourself or let someone else mess it up for you.
Either way, the responsibility to clean it is your responsibility. Because it's your home!

Crave!

In this world of -
Selfishness, greed and endless impossible expectations,
Crave for peace. Happiness. Satisfaction.

What is life -
If the soul is haunted; or mercilessly murdered?
Crave for more happy dreams; work to make them come true.

In this world of -
Selfishness, greed and endless impossible expectations,
Believe that good things still happen; good hearts still beat.

Good-bye

What to do?
Some people are like that.
They don't say goodbye.
They just walk away, leaving haunting silence behind.
And we have to just watch them vanish into thin air.
They also take our light with them;
Leave us in darkness which is surrounded by emptiness.
But, we should not complain.
We should just watch them go; accept the silence.
If possible, throw their memories to the universe and wish that the gravity doesn't throw it back to us.
What to do?
Some people are like that.
Selfish and not courteous!

Sands of Time

Moving on is the beauty of life, isn’t it?
If the waves doesn’t mercilessly wipe away our footprints on sand;
We would forever be stuck in the sands of time!

Adieu 2016

Every end brings a new beginning. New Year just reiterates this. It's an opportunity to sit back and reflect upon the days that has gone by... The new people we met who qualified to be defined as our friends; whose smile became our sunshine. And some old friends who became strangers due to fault in our stars or due to the villainous act of circumstances or by choice. Of course, few others who came back to our life with a renewed zeal.

Have you noticed? Memories have a strange way of meddling with our mind. With each passing day, bitter memories are moved to recycle bin and most of the times, without our knowledge permanently deleted. And the good ones only become better. Maybe that's why as we grow up we tend to forgive others for the pain inflicted by them and ourselves for all the wrong choices as well as stances taken.

As I write this last post of this wonderful year, I feel at peace. I realize that I have understood a lot and even got different perspectives about many things. Every day has taught me some lesson or the other.

I have also learnt to appreciate small things in life... A couple of days before, I was walking to the nearby grocery store. I noticed two little girls walking hand in hand with a mischievous grin. When they neared me, the youngest among the two smiled at me and gave a little flower. It was as tiny and cute like her. That simple gesture elevated me off the ground. It pepped up my spirits. I don't even know why I deserved that flower and why she wanted to give it to me. I don't know them at all. Yet, as I recall that incident, I am smiling. That's the beauty about small things. So I have decided to write a note (a sentence or two) everyday about what made me happy that day. I am planning to read it at the end of next year and hopefully feel blessed and thankful. I see people generally posting #100daysofhappiness in Facebook. But this will remain personal - between me and the universe. If you think this is a good idea, I urge you to do it too. On any given day, if you think nothing noteworthy has happened, just smile at a random stranger; like how that little girl smiled at me and offered the flower. You will not only create something wonderful for you to cherish, but also give another person a beautiful memory!!!

On that high and positive note (hopefully), I wish you all happiness and good health in the coming year. See you all next year, i.e., tomorrow. Until then, bubbye

Little Things

“Live every single day doing something relevant; single days sum up to make great ages!”
― Israelmore Ayivor, Daily Drive 365

Little things matters...
If only laughter matters, why smile?
If only moon matters, why stars?

It is letters that come together and makes words.
Each letter has no meaning if they stand individually.
They derive meaning when they join hands with others.

And any relationships derive meaning when you share small little things...
These little things lend together and make a beautiful camaraderie...

See the greatness in littleness!

We The Fools!

I
 decided to look at this day (April 1st or the famously known Fool’s Day) differently. Most of our childhood would have been spent in planning pranks to make a fool out of others. Ah! That joy of crying out, “April Fool”!

As we grow old, we leave our childhood shoes outside. Sometimes, we just store it inside and never use it. We think that we are grown out of it when we desperately wish that we should try it one more time to check if we could still fit in.

Eventually, we reach a point where our focus shifts from fooling others to NOT fooling ourselves. And, that’s when we realize that it is the mantra for life.

“DO NOT FOOL YOURSELF”

A small voice often reminds us not to fool ourselves. But, we don’t listen. We pretend that the voice is heard from the neighbor’s television and try to ignore it.

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines a Fool as “a person who lacks good sense or judgment: a stupid or silly person”. Basically, he acts unwisely or imprudently.

“I know now that what makes a fool is an inability to take even his own good advice.”
William Faulkner

Now tell me, don’t you think that the basic objective of our life is to fool ourselves? We are always in a dilemma in deciding what we want. And if we get what we want, we are unhappy. We think that the grass is greener ONLY on the other side. We try to smile when we are angry and laugh when we want to cry. We would try to remain silent when we just want to yell and say bad things when we know that we don’t meant it. I mean, most of the times, we just mess up with our lives. Ironically, we also know that it is good. We want to break up, yet we continue in the relationship. We want to do business, but we choose employment. We want to travel alone, but we think that others might find it “uncool”. The list just goes on. Basically, we fool ourselves. We say that all is well when it is not (3 Idiots reference, intended!).

So, on this Fool’s Day, let’s pledge not to fool ourselves. Let’s not pretend that everything is alright when it is not and vice versa. Let’s just celebrate life and always remember, live life king size – after all, we live only once!

Keep Smiling!

People's Mind

Yesterday, I saw a quote in my friend’s (Destination Infinity) blog:

“Great minds discuss ideas;
Average minds discuss events;
Small minds discuss people.”
 – Eleanor Roosevelt

He had raised a valid point.

Can anything be done without people? If no, what can be the essence of Roosevelt’s words? Among many others, I also pondered about this thought. What could these words possibly mean?

I agree that nothing can indeed be done without people. Then, I thought further…

Maybe, great minds don't think what others might think about their ideas... Average minds may not think about the events (consequences)... Only small minds complain; fear the consequences and blame people for everything they could not do.

It might also mean that great minds are visionaries who think for a better future. Average minds look at the past. And small minds just talk; about you and me… every others!

Or in complex terms, it states – Don’t gossip: Act!!!

It is indeed a matter of perception and how we look at things... Do we want to pass on the blame and breathe on excuses? Or should we just concentrate on what we or what others (even ourselves at times) are incapable of?

Anyways... a great thought provoker indeed...
After all, at the end of the day, anything that makes us think is worth reading!

Balance Life with Balanced Diet!

Summer means hot sun, sweat and discomfort. On a brighter note, summer means ice creams, cool drinks, mangoes and all that too J

In the quest to quench the thirst and beat the heat, we go to any extent. We drink lots of juices and never count the calories. We will be concentrating so much on het that we forget to notice that we are gaining weight. Although we know that sugar is not so good for health, we don’t stop ourselves from sipping cool drinks or eating ice creams.

Finally, with the monsoon, reality also hits us like the rain. We realize that we do not fit into most of our old clothes anymore. We try to hit the gym, do yoga, start walking and what not – but we also realize that monsoon is a great climate. We end up snuggling within the comforts of warm blanket.

So, for all you (like me), the best way to get away with those extra calories and love handles is by sticking to a balanced diet - A diet that contains the proper proportions of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and water. This helps in maintaining good health.

After all, a Spanish proverb profoundly says, “A man too busy to take care of his health is like a mechanic too busy to take care of his tools.”

BENEFITS OF A BALANCED DIET
\     Helps in achieving happy and healthy lifestyle.
\     Boosts immunity
\     Protects from diseases like obesity, diabetes, certain types of cancer, etc.
\     Helps to achieve/maintain adequate body weight.

Our busy lifestyle and general attitude of nothing-will happen-to-me has made us neglect our health. We eat whatever is readily available and don’t really care if it is a balanced diet. Our aim has become – “Kill the hunger” from “eat healthy”!

THREATS OF NOT TAKING BALANCED DIET
Æ     Slow-down in metabolism
Æ     Weight gain
Æ     Bone weakness
Æ     Nutrients deficiency
Æ     Weak immune system
Æ     Cardiac stress
Æ     Heart palpitations

BALANCED DIET IS ALL ABOUT
ü  Eating the right amount of food
ü  At the right time
ü  And, including a wide range of foods

RANGE OF FOODS YOUR SHOULD INCLUDE
Þ     Fruits
Þ     Vegetables
Þ     Bread, rice, potatoes, pasta and other starchy foods
Þ     Milk and dairy foods
Þ     some meat, fish, eggs, beans and other non-dairy sources of protein, if possible
Þ     just a small amount of foods high in fat and sugar

1.   Warm water mixed with honey and lemon juice every morning:
Cleanses liver. Helps weight loss. Provides Vitamins (B & C) and minerals (magnesium, calcium & phosphorous).

2.   Eating healthy breakfast within 2 hours of waking:
Long term health benefits like reduced obesity and controls deceases (blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes).

3.   A healthy & balanced diet (approx. 2500 calories daily):
Including fresh fruits (nutrients), green vegetables (vitamins & minerals), whole grains, nuts and beans (proteins) and dairy products (Calcium & Vitamin D) and limiting unsaturated fats and sugar content is the key.

4.   Eat small portion, frequently, than 3 square meals:
Eat every three hours, and stop eating three hours before bedtime. This increases metabolic rate and energy levels, and helps in weight control.

5.   Daily intake of 2 to 3 liters of fluids (except soft drinks and alcohol):
60% of body weight being water, benefits of regular fluid intakes are enormous.

6.   Regular exercise and physical activity (at least 30 minutes a day):
Great way to feel better, gain health benefits and have fun.

7.   Sleep for 7 to 9 hours every night for being healthy:
Improves memory, creativity and immunity. Sharpens attention, lowers stress and depression.

So, take care of your body. Because that’s the only place you can live!
So my dear readers, eat healthy. Stay healthy J

Rejoice with Imperfections

Being strong means rejoicing in who you are, complete with imperfections
-        Margaret Woodhouse

These days, most of us are always unhappy. We always think ifs and buts…
If only…
My nose was longer
Lips were thicker
Hair was straighter/curly… Longer/shorter…
Eyes were bigger/smaller…
That we were brighter… taller... fairer… thinner…
That we had more money… better job…

Outcome?

We are always unhappy. We are in constant lookout for something we don’t have thereby not noticing or appreciating what we have.

And is this making us happy? Do we really believe that we would be better, stronger and powerful if we get what we don’t have? Or is it just the greed which is in default within us!

Choices...

A dear friend always says, “You should learn to live with the choices you made/make”.

Really?

Do we truly have control over situations? Do we ever get to choose what we want? Don’t you think that it is only an illusion that we are making conscious choice?

On a philosophical note, I believe that everything is preplanned.

To quote William Shakespeare:
·     “All the world’s is a stage, and all the men and women merely players”.
·      “The whole world - theater, and the people in it – the actors”

I strongly believe that our life is preplanned and we are merely executing the plan. We have no control over people we meet or the situations we get into.

Then, about what choice is my friend referring? And do we really don’t have control over life? Are we mere puppets? Actors?

Well, I have an answer…

We can choose how we want to feel. Mind you, how we react or respond is also not under our control. But, we control how we should feel about a situation.

We can choose to be happy, sad, bitter, regretful, guilty, vengeance, anger, and what not!

However, if we understand that we have no control over our life or the way others would respond to us, life would become easier.

Always ask, “How do I like to feel?” OR “How do I want to feel?”

Mind you, we all like to be happy. So, the answer would always be – “I want/like to feel happy”

And that’s all… However bad a situation is and in whatever bad way people respond to you, you choose to be happy. Life becomes a celebration!

I know this is not easy. But this is not impossible. When something bad happens choose to believe that something good will follow. When loved ones hurt you, choose to think about the good times you had with them. When someone hurts you, you choose to think about the loved ones in your life.

And, as a last resort, if there is nothing good to think about, just think about you. Ask are you happy? If the answer is no, tell yourself that you will never leave you. You may not believe me, but that simple five words would change the way you feel. Suddenly, you feel secure.

In short, never think you are unlucky… or you have no one in your life… or you are alone… or no one loves you… or everything is going wrong. Instead tell yourself the following three mantra. If possible tell this to yourself everyday (Or many times a day):
1.        I have no control over my life, situations or people’s response
2.      Regardless of what happens in life or how people respond, I will never leave myself. I am there for me!
3.       And I choose to be happy…! J

So let’s all CHOOSE to be happy!
